Today :)

I'm ill and off work so what else to do then get started on this giant canvas I bought about 2 weeks ago! :)
Runny nose or not I still fancy getting my hands and probably face covered in paint :)
I've decided to do a sort of self portrait-ey like piece.
Having me reaching for fruit from a tree and having the tree spindle off into different images :)
However I haven't planned any further.
So I'm researching into some artists to get inspiration (that's a bit of habit from Dan's teaching sinking in - which is good!).

If I don't leave a blog again before christmas than MERRY CHRISTMAS! :)

Evaluation

My final video (DGUnsigned) met the brief well but was 30+ seconds over the limit. However I think that I needed the extra 30 seconds to fit all the footage I needed into the video. The video was exported as MPEG2 DVD and FLV formats at a suitable bit rate.
My video was planned and recorded to how I planned it through log sheets etc.
I feel that my video matched the target audience I was aiming for as it was upbeat and fashionable with a suitable logo and recognisable host.
If I was to change my video I'd put the band on the blue screen and change the background. I couldn't do this however because I didn't have enough time to clip the sound and footage together aswell as garbage matting and creating an enviroment for the band to be in.
I also would have liked to film in a different location but wasn't able to because the location shoot was cancelled.

Capturing :)

I've finnished capturing all the footage I wanted from the 66minutes I recorded on 3 different tapes :D
I'm happy I've got it all done.
But I can't help but feel like it's took an entire day!
The band have organised a band practice that I could come to tonight...
BUT
I felt that it wasn't possible to capture all the new footage I would have taken (knowing we won't be here on Wednesday) and have the project finnished on time after it took so long to capture it all on Premiere today! :(
So I've cancelled :'(
I feel bad over that because I didn't have time to meet the vocalist.
However I know I've done the right thing when it comes to finnishing to the brief on time :)
All I have to do now is put the audio and clip all the footage together and I'll be finnished :D

Limitations

After doing my log sheets I found that the angle I filmed Jake in wasn't the greatest (from my opinion) and after talking to Ben (bassist) that I may not (on this rate) be able to film the band in band practice; meaning I won't get to film the vocalist.

Bummer.

But the footage I have I can live with and am happy with :)

Last Friday!

Filming went great with the band :)
We finnished around 4ish which was great timing!
There was a few problems but nothing with a great deal of trouble.
I think that one of my mics wasn't working on the interview but that's why we had two! :D
I got a fantastic 22 minutes of footage :D
Which is bummer because that means I need to spend around an hour and 6 minutes filling in the log sheets.
Which I'm doing right now as I type!
All in all good day :)

STRESS!!!!!

THE BAND ISN'T HERE YET AND THEY HAVE 20 MINUTES AT MOST TO GET HERE!

I LEFT ALL MY CALL SHEETS AT HOME BECAUSE I WAS IN A RUSH!

AND NOW THE LOCATION SHOOT HAS BEEN CANCELLED SO I NEED TO DECIDE WHERE TO FILM THE INTERVIEW.

THIS MEANS ALL NEW CALL SHEETS AND ME MAKING DECISIONS IN VERY LITTLE TIME! :(

PANIC!

Ok so I've decided that I'm going to film the interview infront of the blue screen so I can put a background in...

The bands also going to play infront of the blue screen but I'm thinking of leaving the blue screen as it is.

The only problem is if the band shows up wearing blue where as the interview will have to be filmed somewhere else....

ARGHHHH!!!

In that case I will film them in the back room or the art classroom.

I've been trying to do the credits BUT I can't untill the band gets back to me.
I need to know the new name since they've changed it since I last heard them (new vocalist new name apparently!) and also the line up with there full names to put in the credits :)
But Ben (the bassist I've been keeping in contact with) has his phone off :(

Graphics :)

Right now and for the past hour+ I've been working on the opening graphics and the end credits on Adobe Premiere, Fireworks, Illustrator AND Photoshop :)

At the start of the programme the logo fades in and shows the Director and Producer; this then fades out to the bands name and then followed by the actual interview with the band.
I'm thinking of putting the bands audio at the start (then playing one of there songs) which goes with the opening graphics so it's not so bland.

Hope it works out well!

Friday :D

The band I've picked is coming in on Friday from 1-2pm :)
Very happy bunny.
They will be playing an acoustic session at college and we're doing interviews off sight,
but will be back at college to deliver the cameras and mics back before 5pm *fingers crossed*
I'm preparing the call sheets as I type!
And should be all set for this Friday :)
Next Tuesday I will be filming them at there band practice playing more the music they play with electric guitars rather than acoustic.
Which should give a good diversity to the bands music.
EXCITEMENT!

Logos that influenced my designs :)

This influenced my first idea of the paint splat DGUnsigned Logo :)

My second idea was influenced by channels like Kerrang, Scuzz and 4Music that shows a lot of amplifiers in adverts or idents :)

Also I thought that amplifiers have a lot to do with live bands which links in nicely to my program :)

Being as I'm interviewing a band I can't tell them what to say!
So I'm deciding on a few questions to ask the band in the interview:

How could people get in contact with you or hear your music?
Who comes up with all your ideas?

Can you ever imagine yourself playing arenas or big venues?
If you were to play with a famous band which one would it be and why?

Mind Mapping and Name of Programme!

After thinking of two suggestions for a name and tallying what people thought. Out of LeicesterLocalAct and DGUnsigned and other suggestions from people such as "Give me a Headache" - DGUnsigned won the vote. I now have to plan for a logo! I've researched different logos of channels and programmes for inspiration.

I've also mind mapped a few ideas for the programme itself such as:
-an about the band - names, instruments they play, what there influences are
-fashionable - has to be modern filming; lots of different shots, cool chilled out place to film
-cool presenter - that people would find interesting, doesn't mind talking to different people
-relaxed enviroment - so that the viewer becomes more relaxed
-relaxed, serious and funny questions - so that you get information about the band but also find out funny facts
-comfy area for interviews - so that the band are more relaxed
-acoustic session - to variate their preformance
-filming from band practices - to show the band at work
-shots of them playing throughout interviews etc. - to keep the viewers attention.

Proposal for TV programme

I propose that my T.V programme is to show awareness of local talent such as bands in the Leicestershire area.
This is to help promote the local bands so that it helps them find local gigs and a bigger fan base.
Also because the music playing will be in fashion, it becomes an entertaining show a lot like the unsigned music acts on Channel 4.
My target audience will be from ages 16+ that are interested in music and even older audiences that are interested in signing or booking the bands.
The medium of delivery will be shown on the internet on the college's website and could also be shown on other channels such as youtube and myspace (the bands website etc.), and will also be shown on DVD on college open days.

Last Friday :)

I bought an absolute massive canvas from Leicester for £9.99 from a bookshop near the market - try and find it! :)
A lot cheaper than Gadsbys where I noramlly shop for art materials.
Not only did I get a fantastic canvas but also a lot of brushes that were cheap aswell! £1.99 for a pack of medium sized wooden handle brushes. I was best pleased :D
The canvas is almost as large as me! I can lean on it!
I was skipping around Leicester very happy! You can even ask Jake who I saw whilst in town :)
I could have spent all my money in that shop on Art bits but then no one would have got any presents for Christmas!

Anyway to the point!
After buying this massive canvas and running around Leicester very happily like a looney and taking out small children like a road sweeper with the canvas and struggling with it on the bus home I haven't got a clue what to paint on it!
It's not a pointless buy, I have so many ideas what I could do; I just haven't settled on one yet.
Your imput could be most helpfull if anyone has an idea. I'm all raring to go and let loose with a lot of paint on this £9.99 beaut! I just haven't got a clue what to paint on it!

ALSO!

After I got home from Leicester and back to Ashby with Peggy (which was quite late).
I took a treck down to the War Mamorial where my friends band was playing, purely to go see him.
But then I realised "HEY! I need a band for my College TV project!" I asked and his band seemed very, very interested. I'm keeping in contact with them and heading to there band practice next week and they said they'd pop into college too!
Which has got that sorted out.
All in all a good day besides getting ill later that night :(

Research!

Idents were created for the BBC in the early 1950's, the idents were made so that the BBC could deifferentiate each of their channels and produce different idents for each channel. As years went on and new technology came available the idents begun to change from very basic filming (black and white for example) to full colour 3D images. As more channels started using idents to brand there channel it almost became a compition so their idents needed to stand out and be creative.

Firstly I've started researching into Idents on http://www.tvark.org.uk/

This is the first BBC 2 ident made in 1964.

This was the Christmas ident for 1977. This was probably made using perspex, lighted and then filmed as there was no 3D animation in that time.

This is the first electronically-generated Christmas symbol in 1986.

This ident from 1993 featured a made "2" remote control.

This ident was created in 2000 to show a new start for the millennium.

This ident was created to promote the Pedigree Comedy on Thursday nights.

This ident was the first to be previewed for the new idents of 2007.

The lighting on Kyle is a lot better but I cut his head off at the end with the garbage mat because of the arrangement of the lights :/

Blue Screening with Deaf Signer :)

This is a practice for when we start to use Deaf Signers in our actual shows :)

Importing the video I did yesterday onto Adobe Premiere and placing in Video 2 then capturing the signer and placing in video 1.
Then getting rid of the blue screen usuing the chroma key tool and some garbage mat. Finally I changed the position of Jake using the motion under effects controls.

The only thing I missed was getting rid of the signers audio. But you can do this by left clicking the audio and selecting Unlink.

More Blue Screen Experiments!

This afternoon we used the blue screen once again to create a 3D world that we can insert our footage onto using the power of Adobe Premiere and Carrara :)

The virtual background was easy to make in Carrara using squashed cylinders and cubes that I scaled. Adding colours to the shapes and then text. Then the final image was rendered as a jpg. image and imported into Premiere.

It's just a shame Kyle's wandering around in a virtual pink studio. How girly! :)

News Cast Experiment

Today we started to learn how to use Adobe Fireworks. Dan showed us how to create a simple desk and background to use when filming with the blue screen. This made us appear to be in a shiny studio! :)

We were split into two groups to begin with and firstly I started messing around with Adobe Fireworks which seemed to me to be easier to use than what I thought it'd be. I used the box tool to create a background and messed around with the pen tool and some effects you could add. Then I added text and exported as a jpg. file.

My desk I firstly had to change the background to be transparent and then create the desk using the rectangle tool. We however had to export this as a PNG 32 format.

Once finished filming myself jabbering in front of the blue screen, I captured the video in Adobe Premiere. From the notes I took from Kim yesterday I was able to understand how to use the chroma key tools etc. This made my life a lot easier. My video was drag and dropped into video 2 and I imported by background and foreground (background onto video 1, foreground onto video 3). I had to mess around with the chroma key settings so the blue screen would vanish. This helped me realise that I wasn't the best reporter because my hair kept some of the blue :/

However in the end I think my video turned out pretty well for just a practice.

I want to learn how to make my hands stay on the desk without dissapearing, but I'm sure if I come to a stiuation like this I can find out :) I tried to mess around with it to fathem it out but I couldn't manage it :/

Dead Good TV

This morning we started mind mapping ideas for the name of our College TV project. We also mind mapped shows that would be included on the station. After narrowing down our many ideas :) We came to a selected few that we tallied from asking people around college. The 3 winners were The Big S came 3rd, STV - 2nd and the winner was Dead Good TV that we've shortened to DGTV.

We then learnt about documents on how to film such as including cast and shots, storyboard etc. This followed after lunch by learning about blue screen and changing the background of our interviewee.

I missed out on half of this because I was being ill in the toilets :(

I'm sure I'll catch up however :)

This blog was designed to keep all my annotations and work together on the internet so that my tutor(s) and fellow students can take a look and leave me lovely comments :)

It was however a pain in the bum to set up since it wouldn't accept my password...
