BBC Iplayer you do need Adobe Flash plugin to watch the videos. In terms of useability this player is simple and easy to use. It looks good too! It's eye catching and a good use of aesthetic design (great use of contrasting colours etc.).
Quicktime - need a plug in.

You do need a plugin - the Flash Plugin (probably at least Flash 9) but because you already had it you were not prompted to get it. Be careful about making assumptions like this.
